Mosquito control
Only female mosquitoes feed on human/animal blood, while male mosquitoes feed on nectar.
The life cycle of mosquitoes
egg
Aedes-Aedes can resist dryness for up to 6 months. The eggs are placed on the edge of the waterline. The eggs are cigar-shaped.
Culex-The eggs are placed closely together to form a floating raft.
Anopheles-eggs are placed separately. The Anopheles egg is quite unique because there are 2 floats on both sides of the egg, which can float on the water.
At this stage, the larva must undergo 4 stages of molting, from 1st to 4th instar, to develop into the pupal stage. It takes 4 to 10 days for the first instar larva to develop into a pupae.
During the pupal stage, it does not need to be fed.
The pupal stage lasts about 1-3 days and then becomes an adult mosquito.
Most mosquitoes are self-bred and require blood meal to reproduce.
The morphological differences of the three mosquitoes:
Aedes: black with white stripes on the legs
Culex mosquitoes: brown, none
Spotted wings Anopheles: brown, winged spotted wings
Mosquito-borne diseases, such as Zika virus and dengue fever, are well known in Singapore. The carriers of these diseases are Aedes mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus). Although Anopheles mosquitoes are vectors of malaria, and Culex mosquitoes are vectors of West Nile virus, Japanese encephalitis.
As we all know, Aedes mosquitoes already feed at dusk and dawn.
Culex mosquitoes feed all night.
Anopheles mosquitoes feeding during sunset and sunrise
